What is Emotional Health Life Consulting?
Emotional Health Life Consulting is another way to describe Life Consulting, a term coined by Justin and Abi Stumvoll, owners of Stumvoll Consulting. It involves the journey of repairing the relationship with yourself.
So often, we can try to fix our destructive life patterns through trying harder, self-judgement, and motivated by shame. In Life Consulting, we believe that as we start to understand where our patterns come from — and realize that we make sense — we can meet ourselves with compassion instead of shame. This shift creates the possibility of lasting and authentic change rooted in love rather than fear.
Life Consulting is experiential rather than just talk-based. It involves connecting more with your heart and body, drawing from emotional health practices like self-awareness, emotional regulation, and belief work. The approach integrates tools influenced by somatic awareness, parts-based reflection, and inner healing work.
Sessions are grounded in three core pillars: Compassion, Nervous System Regulation, and Empowerment.
The Three Pillars:
-
Research suggests that pain tends to persist when it is not met with attunement — whether from ourselves or others. Attunement is when you have a felt experience that someone is really with you and gets you — they see you, they understand, and they are with you in your experience.
In sessions, I help model attunement and compassion as we are curious about your story, how you make sense, and by validating your experience in different ways. We also draw from other attunement you have experienced before.
With guidance, these examples create a map for you to be able to show more compassion and attunement to yourself.
-
Healing happens when the nervous system is connected to a sense of safety, so we don’t get stuck in or overwhelmed by our pain when trying to process it. In addition to this, many of our beliefs, cycles, and emotional experiences are held in our bodies.
In sessions, I work with clients to do emotional healing work that is mindful of their nervous system. We work on becoming more aware of the state of their nervous system, engaging in nervous system regulation activities and support, learning how to let safety sink in deeper, and processing pain in smaller amounts they have capacity for, while also staying connected to a sense of safety.
-
A big part of healing is reconnecting with our sense of autonomy because in painful or traumatic situations we can feel very powerless and out of control.
As clients experience emotionally reparative experiences, beliefs and cycles can be changed at the root. In sessions, I guide clients to practice connecting more with their own heart and body as they feel safe, to have a voice, and to identify ways they have choice in the present. I provide guidance and options to explore in sessions, but our time together is client-led and tailored to your specific needs.
